The Central Bank of Sri Lanka announced yesterday that the Public Debt Department will be closed, and its LankaSecure unit will be transferred to the Department of Payments and Settlements, effective from today.
This move follows the establishment of the Public Debt Management Office within the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, under the Public Debt Management Act No. 33 of 2024.
The Central Bank stated that the Public Debt Management Office, established in December 2024 and fully operational by December 2025, has now assumed full responsibility for the debt management functions previously carried out by the Public Debt Department.
