China will introduce zero-tariff treatment for imports from the 53 African countries with which it maintains diplomatic relations, effective May 1, 2026, state media reported on Saturday.
According to the report carried by China Central Television, Beijing will also continue efforts to negotiate and sign joint economic partnership agreements while further expanding market access for African exports.
China plans to enhance facilitation mechanisms such as its “green channel” to speed up customs clearance and improve entry conditions for goods from African Union member states.
The move is seen as part of China’s broader strategy to deepen economic ties with Africa by boosting trade, supporting export growth, and strengthening long-term development partnerships.
