China’s BYD to Roll Out First Locally Assembled EV in Pakistan by Mid-2025

Chinese electric vehicle (EV) giant BYD is planning to unveil its first locally assembled electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle in Pakistan by July or August 2025, according to foreign media reports quoting a company executive.

The assembly plant, currently under construction in Karachi since April, aims to cater to rising demand for EVs and hybrids across the region. The facility will operate under a joint venture between BYD and Pakistan’s Mega Motor Company.

Denis Khalique, Vice President of Sales and Strategy at BYD Pakistan, told Reuters that the company intends to benefit from government incentives for local production while addressing the surge in demand from emerging markets.

BYD launched its import-based EV sales in Pakistan in March 2024. While Khalique did not disclose exact sales figures, he noted that internal sales targets had already been exceeded by over 30% amid strong local interest.

Pakistan’s EV and plug-in hybrid vehicle market, which saw just around 1,000 units sold in 2024, is projected to grow three- to fourfold in 2025. BYD aims to secure a 30–35% market share in that expanding segment.
