The Lunuwila-based Coconut Research Institute has forecast a significant increase in coconut production for May and June 2025, compared to the same period last year.
According to Professor Ajith Jayewardene, Chairman of the Institute, Sri Lanka recorded a total harvest of 477 million coconuts during May and June 2024. This year, the expected yield is approximately 555 million coconuts — marking a substantial boost for the country’s coconut industry.
Professor Jayewardene also noted that coconut prices in the key coconut-growing areas — commonly known as the “Coconut Triangle” — have stabilized at around Rs. 163 per nut, offering further reassurance to both producers and consumers.
