The Colombo Marathon 2026, jointly organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Department of Sports Development, concluded successfully yesterday (13) at Galle Face Green in Colombo.
More than 5,000 local and international runners participated in the event, including over 130 foreign athletes representing 25 countries.
The organizers awarded total prize money of more than Rs. 12.83 million to the winners.
Uganda’s Julius Ochieng won the men’s full marathon, covering the 42-kilometre course in 2:18:54. Kenya’s Geoffrey Birgen finished second in 2:20:43, while Ethiopia’s Negasi Tuji placed third in 2:21:50.
Ethiopian athletes dominated the women’s full marathon, with Aynalem Kasahun Teferi taking first place in 2:54:09.
In the men’s half marathon, Kenya’s Edwin Yebey secured first place with a time of 1:10:28. Sri Lanka’s W.M.S. Sarathkumara finished second in 1:10:52.
Sri Lanka’s Methmi Roseta won the women’s half marathon in 1:17:50, while Chamini of Sri Lanka placed second.
Sri Lankan runners secured all top positions in both the men’s and women’s 10-kilometre races. Mahendran Gobinathan won the men’s event in 32:16 minutes, while P.G.S.S. Wimalasuriya won the women’s race in 39:08 minutes.
