The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) recorded a historic milestone on Thursday (July 11), as the All Share Price Index (ASPI) crossed the 18,500-point mark for the first time ever.
At the close of trading, the ASPI rose by 379.77 points, or 2.09%, to end the day at 18,541.26. This notable rally reflects renewed investor confidence and strong market momentum.
The S&P SL20 Index, which tracks the top 20 largest and most liquid stocks, also posted a sharp gain, climbing 143.70 points or 2.68% to settle at 5,502.34.
Market turnover exceeded Rs. 10.22 billion, highlighting robust trading activity across sectors.
Analysts attribute the surge to a combination of improved investor sentiment, strong corporate earnings, and optimism over macroeconomic stability in the second half of 2025.
