Compensation for Flood-Affected Farmers Begins Today

The Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board has announced that compensation payments for farmers whose crops were damaged by the November 2023 floods will commence today (30).

Chairman Pemasiri Jasingarachchi stated that the initial phase of payments will begin in the Polonnaruwa, Mullaitivu, Vavuniya, and Trincomalee districts.

Funds will be credited directly to the accounts of affected farmers, with today’s compensation covering 13,379 acres of damaged crops.

He further noted that this phase of payments applies exclusively to paddy farmers.
