The Consumer Affairs Authority has conducted more than 1,000 raids across Sri Lanka this year targeting the sale of substandard and low-quality electrical and electronic appliances.
During a special operation held from August 25 to 29 and September 8 to 9, the Authority carried out 204 raids and seized more than 1,150 electrical and electronic items as case productions.
The inspected products included extension cords, multi-sockets, plug tops, switch sockets, LED bulbs, chargers, electric kettles, irons, torches, adapters and power tools.
The Authority said legal action would not be limited to retailers when violations are detected. Under Order No. 83, investigations are also extended to distributors, importers and manufacturers.
The Authority further reminded traders that all electrical and electronic products must be supplied with a written warranty valid for at least six months.
