Consumer Affairs Authority to Report on Rice Stock Levels Amid Shortages

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) is scheduled to present a report today (October 28) to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, detailing the current stocks of rice and paddy across Sri Lanka. This assessment follows the President’s directive to evaluate rice supplies in light of market shortages affecting varieties such as nadu, white rice, and red raw rice.

In response, CAA officers conducted thorough inspections over the weekend in the Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Ampara, and Hambantota districts. These inspections included stock assessments at large and medium-scale rice mills, as well as discussions with mill workers about the availability and distribution of rice and paddy.

The report’s findings are expected to help the government address the supply challenges impacting essential rice varieties and stabilize the market.
