Sri Lanka Customs has announced that the recent congestion and delays in clearing import containers at the Colombo Harbour have now been fully resolved.
Speaking to the media, Customs Media Spokesperson and Additional Director General Seevali Arukgoda explained that the delays were caused by a sudden surge in container arrivals at the port.
“Under normal circumstances, the port handles around 1,200 containers per day. However, on some days, this number increased to as many as 2,900, significantly straining clearance operations,” Arukgoda said.
He further confirmed that as of this morning, all containers scheduled for release have been cleared, and normal operations have resumed at the harbour.
Sri Lanka Customs assured importers and stakeholders that measures are in place to prevent such disruptions in the future, ensuring the smooth and timely clearance of goods.
