Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party and Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake said that the government should urgently seek assistance from foreign countries to rebuild the nation following the damage caused by the cyclone.
He stated that making such requests would also help determine the scale and nature of the international response Sri Lanka could receive. The MP pointed out that so far, only about eight countries have expressed support.
Ravi Karunanayake emphasized that the government should make a broad appeal to the international community for assistance, stressing that such a request should not be viewed as begging, but as a necessary step in an extraordinary situation.
He added that the government must clearly communicate to the world that this is a natural disaster and that the conditions faced by the country are severe and unbearable.
