CPC Releases 57,000 Metric Tons of Diesel Amid Surge in Fuel Demand

March 16, 2026

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) says 57,000 metric tons of diesel have been released for public consumption through filling stations during the first 10 days since the start of the Middle East conflict.

During the same period, 47,000 metric tons of petrol have also been distributed across the country.

The CPC said that two fuel shipments were included in this supply and noted that the stock was released within just nine days due to the sharp increase in demand. The corporation added that this quantity is typically issued over a period of about one and a half months.

Meanwhile, the CPC has begun a nationwide stock and sales verification process at all fuel stations across the island starting today.

Under this system, authorities will compare the quantity of fuel supplied to each station with the amount sold through the QR code system.

The CPC stated that the mechanism for collecting and verifying this data has already been designed and tested.

The corporation also warned that strict action will be taken if discrepancies are detected, including the possible cancellation of a filling station’s operating license.
