CSE Delays Market Opening After Active CDS Accounts Mistakenly Suspended

July 1, 2026

The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) extended the Opening Market Auction on Monday after a number of active Central Depository System (CDS) accounts were inadvertently suspended during the deactivation of long-dormant accounts.

In a statement, the CSE said that CDS accounts which had remained inactive for 15 years were suspended on June 30 as part of a security initiative to deactivate long-dormant accounts.

However, the Exchange acknowledged that several active CDS accounts were mistakenly suspended during the process.

To facilitate the restoration of the affected accounts, the CSE decided to extend the Opening Market Auction, allowing the necessary corrective measures to be completed before trading commenced.

Following the restoration process, normal trading began at 11:00 a.m., the CSE said.

The Exchange has not disclosed the number of active accounts affected but stated that the issue arose during the implementation of the dormant account suspension process.
