Current Government Is Selling Illusions Like a Hindi Film – Ravi Karunanayake

Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party (UNP) and Member of Parliament Ravi Karunanayake has criticized the government for creating illusions rather than addressing real social needs.

In an interview with CeylonWire, Karunanayake said that instead of acknowledging the actual gaps in society, the government pretends everything is fine and projects a false sense of progress. He emphasized the need to foster an environment that nurtures talent and genuine development, rather than relying on empty theatrics.

He likened the government’s actions to a Hindi film—entertaining and emotional, but ultimately detached from reality. “You can watch a Hindi movie in a theatre and get carried away, but once you step outside, reality hits you,” he said.

Karunanayake accused the government of misleading the public with fantasy, while avoiding the real challenges the country faces.
