Former UNP Deputy Leader and Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake says that regardless of the proposals and conditions presented by international financial institutions, the government should act in the nation’s best interest.
In an interview with ceylonwire.lk, he emphasized that discussions with institutions like the IMF must be conducted with a clear understanding of the country’s economic situation.
Karunanayake alleged that, as far as he knows, handling of the IMF has now been entirely delegated to the Governor of the Central Bank, effectively making the Governor the local branch manager of the IMF.
He stressed that what is needed instead is direct government intervention to ensure that decisions are made in alignment with national priorities.
