Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party and Member of Parliament, Ravi Karunanayake, says the decision to digitize the Sri Lanka Ports Authority and the Inland Revenue Department is a vital step forward.
Speaking to the media, Karunanayake explained that he had attempted to implement such reforms during his tenure as Finance Minister in 2015. However, he claimed those efforts were blocked by then-presidents who failed to recognize the importance of digitizing key government services.
He stated that many valuable programs were obstructed at the time due to a lack of support from leadership, limiting the ability of ministers to carry out necessary reforms.
Karunanayake noted that while Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe understood the value of digital transformation, President Maithripala Sirisena did not allow the initiative to move forward.
