Dengue Cases in Sri Lanka Rise to 68,672; Death Toll Reaches 47

The number of dengue cases reported across Sri Lanka continues to rise, according to the National Dengue Control Unit.

As of yesterday (12), a total of 68,672 dengue cases had been reported so far this year.

The Unit stated that 68,071 cases had been recorded as of July 11, with the total increasing by 601 cases within the following 24 hours.

The Western Province continues to report the highest number of infections, with 36,118 cases recorded to date.

Within the province, the Gampaha District has reported the highest number of cases at 14,112, followed by the Colombo District with 13,791 cases.

Meanwhile, 13,293 dengue cases have been reported during the first 12 days of July alone.

The highest monthly case count this year was recorded in June, when 21,538 infections were reported.

The National Dengue Control Unit also confirmed that 47 dengue-related deaths have been reported so far this year.

Health authorities continue to urge the public to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, maintain clean surroundings and seek immediate medical attention if they develop symptoms such as fever.
