Sri Lanka recorded 6,042 cases of dengue in the month of May, according to the latest data released by the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU).
The figures reveal a steady upward trend in infections over the past three months, with 3,766 cases reported in March and 5,166 in April.
In total, 23,744 dengue cases have been reported in the first five months of 2025, with the highest numbers recorded in the Colombo, Gampaha, Ratnapura, and Batticaloa districts.
So far this year, 13 dengue-related deaths have been confirmed, the NDCU stated.
Health authorities have issued warnings that the number of infections is likely to increase further with the onset of the monsoon rains, which create ideal breeding conditions for mosquitoes.
Public cooperation in maintaining cleanliness and eliminating mosquito breeding sites is critical to controlling the spread of the disease, officials said.
