DMC Prepares Pre-Disaster Plans as Heavy Rainfall Looms

The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) convened a special discussion to finalize pre-disaster plans in anticipation of heavy rainfall expected in the Northern and Eastern provinces due to the Low-Pressure Area over the southeast Bay of Bengal.

DMC Director General, Retired Major General Udaya Herath, stated that the meeting aimed to establish an effective mechanism for responding to potential disaster scenarios.

Representatives from the Ministry of Health, Irrigation Department, Department of Meteorology, and the Tri-forces participated in the meeting via Zoom, ensuring a coordinated approach.

Focus on Education and Relief
The meeting also discussed arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the ongoing A/L examination, despite the potential for adverse weather.

Currently, 1,462 individuals from 431 families affected by adverse weather remain sheltered in 17 relief centers across the island. Authorities are continuing efforts to support these families and mitigate further risks.
