DMC Takes Precautionary Measures Ahead of Predicted Heavy Rainfall

December 28, 2025

The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) has initiated preparedness measures in anticipation of increased rainfall forecast by the Department of Meteorology.

Major General (Retired) Sampath Kotuwegoda, Director General of the DMC, said that relevant authorities, including naval personnel, aircraft units, and boat teams, have already been notified to remain on standby.

According to the Meteorology Department, a wave-like wind flow is expected to affect the country from December 29, bringing above-normal rainfall to the Northern, North-Central, Central, Eastern, and Uva provinces.

Major General Kotuwegoda emphasized that these precautionary measures aim to mitigate potential disaster risks and ensure public safety.

He added that, in line with the forecasts, the DMC has instructed the Tri-Forces, Police, and Civil Security Department to prepare troops, aircraft, naval units, and boats according to the emergency response plan in place for the northeast monsoon.

The DMC has urged the public to remain vigilant during this period.
