Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party and MP Ravi Karunanayake raised concerns in Parliament regarding the lending practices of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
He questioned whether the Central Bank is providing loan facilities only to selected sectors, rather than ensuring broader and more inclusive access to credit.
The MP pointed out that under the current model, financial facilities appear to be directed toward specific segments, while small and medium-scale entrepreneurs and the youth community — both vital to the country’s economic growth — are being overlooked.
He stressed that equitable access to credit is essential for sustainable development and called for greater transparency in the Central Bank’s lending policies
