Today marks Easter Sunday, commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who, according to Christian belief, came into the world to save humanity from sin.
Christian devotees observed Holy Saturday last night, with midnight services held in churches across the country to mark the occasion.
For those celebrating from home, Sirasa TV is broadcasting a live Easter service from the Church of Our Lady of Good Health in Mabola, beginning at 7.30 a.m.
Meanwhile, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in his Easter message, expressed prayers for peace and coexistence among all people, urging the world to move away from conflicts driven by hostility.
He emphasized that the teachings of Jesus Christ call for love, patience, and forgiveness, encouraging people to move forward together in unity, setting aside differences.
Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, in her Easter message, called for reflection not only on the significance of the occasion but also on the hardships faced by those affected by conflicts, particularly in the Middle East.
She expressed hope for a future shaped by dialogue and mutual understanding rather than division and violence, and urged all Sri Lankans to embrace unity, compassion, and harmony in building a peaceful nation.
