Education Ministry Clarifies Textbook Printing Under New Reforms

October 22, 2025

The Ministry of Education has clarified that the printing of school textbooks has not been halted, but adjustments have been made for certain grades in line with the government’s new education reforms.

Nalaka Kaluwewa, Secretary to the Ministry of Education, stated that textbooks will continue to be provided for Grades 2–5 and Grades 7–11 from January next year under the revised education framework.

However, Grades 1 and 6 will not receive printed textbooks. Instead, students in these grades will be provided with simplified learning module materials designed to align with the reformed curriculum.

Kaluwewa further explained that the printing of teacher manuals has also not been discontinued, and they will be printed to meet the requirements of the new education reforms.

The printing of module materials for Grades 2–5, 7–11, and Grades 1 and 6 has already commenced and is scheduled to be completed by November 15.

The distribution of textbooks and learning materials to schools across the country is expected to be completed before December 31, ensuring readiness for the new academic year.
