– The Ministry of Education has announced that a revised circular on student admissions to intermediate grades will be released next week, aiming to address issues and gaps found in the previous guidelines.
Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. Madura Seneviratne, stated that the new circular has been carefully developed to eliminate shortcomings identified in the earlier version and to promote a fair, transparent, and merit-based admissions process.
“This updated circular is intended to ensure that the most suitable students are admitted to schools through a more accountable and ethical process,” Dr. Seneviratne said.
The revised policy will also include specific measures to curb illegal and unethical admission practices, which have raised public concern in recent years.
In addition, Dr. Seneviratne confirmed that a separate revised circular for Grade 1 admissions will also be released next week, signaling a broader reform effort within the education sector.
These changes are part of the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to improving equity, integrity, and quality in the national school admissions system.
