Education Reform Begins with Restructuring of 312 Primary Schools

The restructuring of 312 primary schools across the island has officially begun, marking a significant first step in the comprehensive education reform programme scheduled for full implementation in 2026.

A special discussion on the initiative was held under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, reflecting the government’s high-level commitment to transforming the education sector.

The reform plans are currently being developed by the Policy and Planning Division of the Ministry of Education, which is spearheading efforts to modernize and strengthen the country’s primary education system as part of the wider national education reform agenda.
