The National Election Commission has approved the registration of five new political parties, the commission announced.
The parties whose registrations have been approved are:

Approval was granted after interviews were conducted last year as part of the process for registering new political parties.
In 2025, a total of 83 parties applied for registration. Out of them, 47 parties were selected for preliminary interviews.
Following the final interviews, five parties were granted permission to register.
With this decision, the Election Commission noted that the total number of registered political parties in Sri Lanka has now risen to 85.
