The National Election Commission has released a notice detailing key regulations for submitting nominations for the upcoming Local Government elections.
The notice outlines 11 conditions under which nominations may be rejected, including:
- Submission by an unauthorized person.
- Failure to meet the required number of candidates.
- Absence of a candidate’s signature on the nomination paper, in which case their name will be removed without replacement.
Additionally, any bond deposited for a candidate will be forfeited if their nomination is disqualified.
Nomination Process & Deadlines:
- Nominations open tomorrow and will be accepted until 12 noon on March 20.
- Submissions can be made daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at District Secretariat offices and Election Offices under the supervision of Returning Officers.
- Candidates must deposit their bond by 12 noon on March 19.
- The election date will be officially announced on March 20.
For the Mannar, Poonakary, and Dehiattakandiya Pradeshiya Sabhas, nominations will be accepted from March 24–27, with security deposit submissions closing at 12 noon on March 26.
To ensure a smooth process, the Election Commission will implement enhanced security measures at all nomination centers starting tomorrow.
