The election to appoint the next Diyawadana Nilame of the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy is scheduled to be held in November, according to Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs Gamini Senaratne. He stated that the election will take place on or around November 7.
The current Diyawadana Nilame, Pradeep Nilanga Dela, was first appointed in 2005. The term of office for a Diyawadana Nilame is 10 years, and Dela has already served two consecutive terms in the prestigious post.
