Elon Musk highlights the Sri Lankan partner of a German far-right leader, sparking debate.

Elon Musk Criticized for Remarks on AfD Leader Alice Weidel

Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur and owner of X (formerly Twitter), has faced backlash over his comments about Alice Weidel, the co-chair of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.

In an op-ed published in Germany’s Welt am Sonntag, Musk defended the AfD, asserting that the party is “not as extreme as critics claim.” He particularly referenced Weidel, pointing out her relationship with a same-sex partner of Sri Lankan origin.

Musk’s remarks have sparked controversy, drawing criticism for his perceived support of a party associated with far-right ideologies.
