Elon Musk Slams Trump’s Tax-Cut Bill, Threatens to Launch ‘America Party’

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has reignited his criticism of U.S. President Donald Trump’s highly contested tax-cut and spending bill—dubbed by Trump as the “Big, Beautiful Bill”—warning of political consequences for lawmakers who support it and vowing to form a new political party if the bill passes.

After a period of relative silence, Musk returned to the national debate just as the U.S. Senate began its marathon voting session on the bill. Posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, Musk labeled the legislation “utterly insane and destructive.”

“If this insane spending bill passes, the America Party will be formed the next day,” Musk wrote. “Our country needs an alternative to the Democrat-Republican uniparty so that the people actually have a VOICE.”

Musk sharply criticized Republican lawmakers who had campaigned on promises of fiscal restraint but are now backing the bill. “They should hang their heads in shame!” he declared. He went further, threatening political retribution: “And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth.”

The clash over the bill has caused a major rupture in Musk’s relationship with President Trump. Once a key ally and financial backer—Musk reportedly contributed nearly $300 million to Trump’s 2024 re-election campaign—he resigned from his post at the White House in late May, where he was heading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a federal cost-cutting initiative.

Musk has previously warned that the tax and spending plan would significantly increase the national debt, effectively negating any financial savings achieved by DOGE.

As Republican senators scramble to bridge internal divisions, the Senate has entered an extended voting phase aimed at passing the bill by Trump’s self-imposed July 4 deadline.
