Enhanced Showery Conditions and Strong Winds Expected from Tuesday

The Department of Meteorology has announced that showery conditions are expected to intensify in the southwestern region of the island starting Tuesday (10), accompanied by strong wind gusts both over land and in surrounding sea areas.

The public is advised to stay informed by paying close attention to future weather forecasts issued by the Department.

According to the latest daily weather update:

  • Several spells of showers are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts.

  • Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few locations in the Northern and Uva provinces, and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the afternoon or night.

Wind Conditions:

  • Fairly strong winds ranging from 30 to 40 kmph are likely at times over the western slopes of the central hills, and in the Northern, North-Central, North-Western, and Southern provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee district.

  • The public is also urged to take necessary precautions to reduce the risk of damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
