The inauguration ceremony of EPIGS’25 – the Global South Integrity Summit – was held yesterday (11th) at the Cinnamon Life Hotel in Colombo, under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.

EPIGS’25 is an international conference on electoral integrity organized by Factum, a Colombo-based think tank focused on the Asia-Pacific region, in collaboration with Democracy Reporting International and with support from the European Union.

In her keynote address, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya highlighted the importance of electoral integrity, information integrity, and platform accountability – the central themes of the summit. She noted that these issues are timely and essential in addressing the intersection of technology, democracy, and governance. The Prime Minister also commended Factum for its initiative in promoting leadership from the Global South in tackling democratic challenges in the digital age.

The summit brings together a diverse and dedicated group of participants, including digital rights advocates, tech policy specialists, and media development professionals. Delegates include policymakers, academics, civil society organizations, media practitioners, and technology experts from over 12 countries across the Global South, including Sri Lanka, to discuss the integrity of democratic processes in the digital era.

The event is being attended by representatives from civil society organizations and members of the diplomatic corps.
