The Department of Meteorology has warned that the heat index will remain at an “extreme caution” level in several parts of the island today.
The affected areas include the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and North Western provinces, as well as the districts of Anuradhapura, Mannar, Vavuniya and Monaragala.
Residents in these regions have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions to minimize the impact of the intense heat.
Meanwhile, Consultant Psychiatrist at the Karapitiya Hospital in Galle, Dr. Rumi Ruben, cautioned that the prevailing high temperatures could lead to mental confusion and psychological stress among individuals.
