The Department of Meteorology has forecast fairly heavy rainfall of around 75 mm in some areas today (16), as showers and thundershowers continue across several parts of the country.
Showers or thundershowers are expected at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces, with some areas likely to experience heavier rainfall.
Several places in the Uva, Eastern and North Central provinces, as well as the Mullaitivu district, may also experience showers or thundershowers after 1 p.m.
The Met. Department said the weather conditions were linked to a low-level atmospheric disturbance that had been affecting Sri Lanka. However, the system is now moving away from the island, and its influence is expected to gradually weaken.
The public has been urged to remain cautious during thundershowers due to the possibility of temporary localized strong winds and lightning.
Authorities have also advised people to take necessary precautions to minimize potential damage caused by strong winds and lightning during thunderstorms.
