The Election Commission of Sri Lanka has officially confirmed, through a Gazette notification, that Faiszer Musthapha has been elected as a Member of Parliament via the National List of the New Democratic Front (NDF).
Musthapha contested the 2024 General Election under the ‘Gas Cylinder’ symbol.
On Tuesday (10), it was reported that the NDF nominated Musthapha for one of its two National List MP positions in Parliament.
However, the decision has sparked controversy within the party, as coalition partners claim the nomination was made without proper consultation.
The NDF, which contested the election under the ‘Gas Cylinder’ symbol, secured two National List seats.
The other seat was awarded to former United National Party (UNP) minister Ravi Karunanayake.
His selection has also led to a contentious situation, adding to the party’s internal disputes.
