Sri Lanka’s disaster relief efforts received a significant boost early this morning when the first humanitarian flight from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) landed at Katunayake International Airport.
The aid shipment, dispatched to support communities impacted by severe flooding, includes:
-
48 temporary housing units
-
2,592 food packages, each sufficient for a 14-day supply per family
-
Tents and vehicles for rescue operations
-
Motorcycles built for rough terrain to enhance emergency mobility
The relief cargo was transported aboard a C-17 Globemaster, the world’s largest military transport aircraft, operated by the UAE Air Force.
More assistance from the UAE is expected as coordination continues.
