Vijitha Herath, Sri Lanka’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, has held a series of discussions with several Gulf foreign ministers regarding the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
During a telephone conversation with Ayman Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan, Minister Herath exchanged views on the evolving regional situation and expressed appreciation for Jordan’s continued support to the Sri Lankan community living in the country.
Minister Herath emphasized that restoring regional peace should remain a top priority and reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region.
Discussions with Bahrain, Lebanon and Kuwait
The Sri Lankan Foreign Minister also held a phone conversation with Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Foreign Minister of Bahrain, where both sides exchanged views on regional developments.
During the discussion, Minister Herath highlighted the importance of diplomacy and de-escalation to maintain regional stability and expressed Sri Lanka’s appreciation for Bahrain’s assistance to the Sri Lankan community residing there.
Separately, Minister Herath also spoke with Youssef Raggi, Lebanon’s Foreign Minister. Both leaders shared perspectives on the current situation and reaffirmed their commitment to de-escalation and the protection of civilians through sustained diplomatic engagement.
In addition, Minister Herath held discussions with Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah, Foreign Minister of Kuwait, focusing on the evolving regional situation.
During the conversation, he reiterated the importance of restraint and diplomatic engagement to prevent further escalation, while also thanking the Government of Kuwait for its continued support to the Sri Lankan community in the country.
The discussions form part of Sri Lanka’s ongoing diplomatic engagement aimed at ensuring the safety of Sri Lankan nationals in the Middle East and promoting peaceful solutions to the conflict.
