Former Secretary to the President Saman Ekanayake has been granted bail by the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court, Ada Derana reported.
Colombo Fort Magistrate Isuru Neththikumara ordered Ekanayake’s release on two surety bails of Rs. 20 million each, following a bail application made by President’s Counsel Kalinga Indatissa.
Ekanayake had been arrested and remanded in connection with a case involving alleged misuse of public funds linked to former President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The case stems from a complaint alleging that more than Rs. 16.2 million in public funds were misappropriated to finance a private overseas trip in 2023 to attend his wife’s graduation ceremony in the United Kingdom.
Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe was also arrested in relation to the matter but was subsequently released on bail by the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court. Investigations into the case are ongoing.
