Former State Minister ‘Pillayan’ Arrested Over 2006 Disappearance of University Vice Chancellor

Former State Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, widely known as Pillayan, has been taken into custody for questioning in connection with the abduction and disappearance of Professor Sivasubramaniam Ravindranath, the former Vice Chancellor of Eastern University.

According to police reports, a special team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested Pillayan late last night (April 8) at his party office in Batticaloa. He was subsequently transported to Colombo for further interrogation.

The arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Professor Ravindranath, who was last seen on December 15, 2006. Pillayan is currently being detained as inquiries into the case continue.
