The Ministry of Digital Economy has announced plans to increase fuel quotas for non-vehicle categories in the coming week.
Speaking to the media on Thursday (26), Ministry Advisor Sumudu Ratnayake said a QR code-based system will be introduced for categories such as generators, fishing vessels and agricultural equipment.
He explained that users in these categories will be able to obtain fuel by presenting their QR codes at fuel stations.
Ratnayake added that detailed guidelines on the process will be announced on Monday.
Sri Lanka introduced the QR-based fuel distribution system in response to supply challenges caused by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
