The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has announced that a fuel tanker from IndianOil Company is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka today, strengthening the country’s fuel supply.
CPC Chairman D.A. Rajakaruna stated that the vessel carries 18,000 metric tons of diesel and 18,000 metric tons of 92-octane petrol.
The shipment follows recent high-level diplomatic engagement, including a telephone conversation between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aimed at resolving fuel supply challenges.
As a result of these discussions, IndianOil Company agreed to dispatch fuel supplies to Lanka IOC, with a total of ten fuel tankers expected to arrive in Sri Lanka over the next month.
Meanwhile, CPC officials assured that sufficient diesel stocks are available until mid-April, while adequate supplies of both 92 and 95-octane petrol have been secured until June.
CPC Managing Director Mayura Neththikumarage emphasized that there will be no fuel shortages during the upcoming April festive season.
He further clarified that while Sri Lanka currently has adequate refined fuel stocks, challenges have arisen in importing crude oil, with two expected shipments failing to arrive.
To address this, authorities have increased orders of refined fuel, with at least one shipment already received at the Port of Colombo. Discussions are also ongoing to ensure long-term fuel security.
