GMOA Announces Island-Wide Strike Over Unresolved Transfer Issues

The Central Committee of the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has decided to launch an island-wide strike over several unresolved demands, including the implementation of doctors’ transfers, according to Dr. Hansamal Weerasuriya, Assistant Secretary of the GMOA.

Speaking at a media briefing, Dr. Weerasuriya warned that if the Ministry of Health fails to address their concerns by 8:00 a.m. on August 11, the GMOA will proceed with a nationwide strike.

“We have already given the Ministry of Health sufficient time and held continuous discussions,” he said. “However, the authorities continue to ignore the issues, particularly those concerning the transfer lists. If there is no meaningful intervention by the deadline, we will take action.”

Dr. Weerasuriya emphasized that the strike decision reflects the Central Committee’s frustration with the Ministry’s lack of response.
