GMOA to Withdraw from Hospital Clinic Activities from March 2

February 27, 2026

The Government Medical Officers’ Association Sri Lanka (GMOA) has decided to withdraw from hospital clinic activities from next Monday (March 2).

The GMOA stated that the decision was taken due to the government’s failure to provide a satisfactory response to its demand for the establishment of a special service framework for doctors.

Secretary of the Association, Prabath Aththanayake, said that the 50 clinics currently in operation and the mobile clinic systems are initiatives driven by political objectives.

He further noted that amid a shortage of staff required to maintain the country’s primary healthcare services, doctors have decided not to extend support to such projects.

Aththanayake added that in the absence of reasonable intervention by the subject minister or relevant government authorities to address the concerns raised by medical professionals, the ongoing trade union action could escalate into a full strike.
