Gold Prices Surge in Sri Lanka Following Global Market Increase

May 6, 2026

Gold prices in Sri Lanka have risen sharply following an increase in prices on the international market, according to traders in the Pettah gold market.

Market traders stated that local gold prices increased by approximately Rs. 7,000 today.

Accordingly, the price of a 22-carat gold sovereign was recorded at Rs. 363,400 in the Pettah market.

Meanwhile, the price of a 24-carat gold sovereign has increased from Rs. 388,000 yesterday to Rs. 395,000 today.

Traders attribute the increase to rising global gold prices amid continued uncertainty in international financial and geopolitical markets.
