The government is taking steps to establish a National Commission on Women to address issues affecting women across the country, the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs announced.
According to the Ministry, a seven-member panel has already been appointed to serve on the Commission. These appointments were made under the provisions of the Women’s Empowerment Act, No. 34 of 2024.
The new Commission will provide a platform for women to lodge complaints related to harassment, discrimination, and injustices encountered in both government and private sector workplaces.
In addition, the Commission is expected to offer guidance and assistance on legal cases involving women, ensuring greater protection and access to justice within the judicial system.
