The Ministry of Public Administration has announced that all government institutions will hoist the national flag for a week in celebration of Sri Lanka’s 77th Independence Day.
Additionally, the ministry has reiterated its directive to suspend the use of decorative lighting to help minimize electricity costs and conserve energy.
In preparation for the main Independence Day celebrations and parades, 1,650 members of the police and Special Task Force have been deployed to ensure security.
The police have also implemented a special traffic plan to ensure smooth conduct of the parades and main event, minimizing disruptions to vehicular movement and public convenience.
The 77th National Independence Day celebration will take place tomorrow at Independence Square in Colombo, under the patronage of the President. This year’s celebration will notably not include the traditional Presidential salute.
