The government has decided to provide official email addresses to public sector employees as part of efforts to strengthen and accelerate the digitalisation of the public service, the Ministry of Digital Economy said.
Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne said the initiative aims to create a more interconnected public service and facilitate efficient communication and data exchange among government institutions.
He noted that many public sector employees currently use personal email addresses for official communication.
Under the new programme, official government email addresses will allow public officials to securely exchange documents and other essential information while also supporting activities such as video conferencing.
The official email facility will be provided to all public officials who use email for official communication.
