The Ministry of Labor has announced plans to amend the law to increase the monthly minimum wage for private sector employees to Rs. 27,000.
Secretary to the Ministry, S. M. Piyatissa, stated that the proposed amendments will be submitted to Parliament in May after receiving Cabinet approval.
Currently, the minimum wage stands at Rs. 21,000. The increase aligns with this year’s budget proposal, and a further adjustment is scheduled for next year, raising the minimum wage to Rs. 35,000.
