The government has planned to recruit 450 drivers and 300 assistants, including women, for the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB), Transport Minister Bimal Ratnayake announced.
Interviews for the recruitment process are currently underway. The Minister emphasized that necessary security and sanitary facilities must be ensured for women before they are deployed in depots.
According to the initial plan, female staff will be assigned to school buses in the Colombo district, with the program set to be implemented in phases.
“We have also designed their uniforms to match the standards of air hostesses. We need to raise the standards in this way, so the younger generation will see the SLTB as an attractive workplace,” the Minister said.
