Government to Take Action on Crop-Damaging Wildlife Following Census Report

Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands, and Irrigation K.D. Lalkantha has announced that necessary measures will be implemented to manage wild animals based on findings from a recent wildlife census.

Speaking at a press conference in Kandy, the Minister stated that the census report, which includes data on toque macaque monkeys, peacocks, and giant squirrels—species known to cause significant damage to crops—will be released on March 28. The report is expected to guide policy decisions on mitigating human-wildlife conflicts affecting the agricultural sector.
